Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the street in front of my house, in Rancho Cucamonga California.

Time

This was taken the I was getting ready to leave for school senior year of high school. It was around 6:45 in the morning, I just looked up and saw the perfect light breaking through the clouds from the sun and couldn't not take a photo of it.

Lighting

This is all natural lighting. I was early morning sunshine just coming through in a beautiful golden hue that just set the perfect mood for the day, and the photo.

Equipment

I took this with an iPhone 5, no special tools or anything, I just saw it and shot the picture.

Inspiration

I am a nature photographer at heart, I had a photography class that I was taking at the time and just couldn't pass this up, as both someone who loves natural beauty, and for my class. It was just a case of the right place at the right time. That's all I can say about how I got this.

Editing

I did very minimal post-processing. I took out a couple power lines that were very distracting in the image and just balanced it out a little, and added a light vignette to really show off the light from the sun, as well as the rays of light that are moving up the picture frame.

In my camera bag

I always make sure to pack in my Nikon D810, and the spare batteries and cards I have for it. Then no matter what I always have my Tamron 28-300mm 3.5, it is a very versatile lens that takes crystal clear pictures. I also make sure to have my hot shoe flash for any shoots in a darker area, or if I am going to a dance of some sort. If I plan on being far away from the action I have a Tamron 150-600mm 5.6 that is great for anything from sports to simple events, and even graduation ceremonies.

Feedback

The most simple thing you can do is to just look around you, and appreciate everything, and I mean everything, from basic human interactions, to giant sweeping landscapes in Yosemite National Park, or even just a bug on its way to find food. Every moment has the opportunity for a great picture, the only question is if you are going to be ready for it, and paying attention for it. Some of my best photos were not planned or expected, I just happened to be looking, and have had the opportunity to take the photo before the moment was done.
