Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Transylvania in a place called Rétyi nyír (The White Birch Woods of Réty)

Time

The photo was taken late afternoon.

Lighting

I was wondering around the birch wood looking for plants and mushrooms or insects. I saw this beautiful bluebell flower which was beautifully lit by natural sunlight on the floor standing somehow isolated of the other ones. As I laid down I noticed the beautiful clear background with some more flowers hanging in.

Equipment

I took the photo with a Canon EOS 450D and a Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Lens and an EF12 extension tube resting on a beanbag.

Inspiration

I am always astonished by macro photography no matter whether it's insects or plants. Although I am not so much of a macro photographer and probably don't have the patience required, I love experimenting and trying myself out in different fields. It's always exciting to get immersed in the exciting world of tiny little plants and creatures.

Editing

I cloned out a few grass at the bottom of the image and warmed the colors a bit. I also added some contrast and as a final touch some vignette. Finally, I sharpened the picture

In my camera bag

The things I always have on me is my Canon EOS 6D body which I use with a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens. I always carry my Canon EF 50mm f/1,8 lens which is one of my favourite lens. It is a very cheap lens yet very versatile, sharp and delivers great quality. I'M not happy about it but most of the times I haul my Manfrotto tripod with me. In the depth of my photo bag one can also find small gadgets such as filters, extension tubes and so on.

Be patient and try not so much to look but to see .
