Wow! Reminiscent of a misty prehistoric valley. I'd be curious to hear the story behind the photo, & (as it uses contrast, colour & perspective cleverly) which artistic element inspired you?

Thanks so much Sarah. I'm fortunate having this view from my fenceline so if I'm up early enough I don't have too far to go! :)

It's exellent as japanese or chinese engraving on wood under lacquer. There is even sensation of smell and mist here. Bravo.

Thanks very much Kathy. Getting a wide angle lens next week 10-18 f4 so looking forward to using that instead of the 70-200 zoom. :)

Location
This photo was taken from the fence line of my property in New Zealand. My house is in a rural area and borders a dairy farm. A herd of cows can be seen on the slope in the foreground.Time
Waking up early on this cold, misty morning I looked outside my lounge and noticed the pockets of mist in the distant valleys and the beautiful silhouettes of the trees and faraway hills on the horizon. So I rushed and grabbed my camera and headed for my fence that overlooks the area.Lighting
The sun was still very low in the sky so it was perfect lighting for the moody, misty look I wanted to capture with my camera.Equipment
I don't use a tripod and depend on the steadiness of my hand as well as the top of a fence post to balance my camera. I also have image stabilisation turned on. I love my camera which is a Sony a6000 mirrorless with a Sony FE 70-200 F4 lens. They're both light and easy to carry around.Inspiration
I love the beauty of the landscape I live in here in New Zealand and the clear, winter mornings around sunrise are particularly beautiful and inspiring. I have also been taking photographs of this scene over a period of time and each morning is different ...whether it's the colour of the sky, the reflection of the sun and the pastel colours it creates on the paddocks and hills, the water droplets on the grass, the length of the shadows or the touch of the mist in the valley crevices.Editing
A little post processing was done in Lightroom in the develop module.... I cropped it slightly, then made a lens correction to make sure it's clicked to my lens, then back up to the white balance section. I increased the exposure a little, highlights down, shadow slider up a little, increased the brightness, brought the clarity up a little. In my camera bag
I travel very lightly so choose a lens before I leave the house but I always carry a spare fully charged battery and an extra memory card.Feedback
The key to getting a photo like this is to first find somewhere with a good rural view from a hill location. That way you see the fog below you rather than being in it! Then get up very early ... just as the sun is starting to rise. I find cold, clear, frosty mornings create the best conditions with their beautiful moody, pastel colours enabling the camera to capture that zen moment!
