The weather wasn't looking too promising in the run up to last night's Perseid Meteor Shower. Most of the UK was forecast for cloud pretty much all night except for Durdle Door on the south coast. Desperate to find clear skies I set off on the six hour drive and arrived shortly after sunset. Lucky the forecast was right and I was in for an all night treat as this turned out to be the best Perseid display I've seen to date. The meteors ranged from small and just visible to the naked eye to huge exploding fireballs that lit up the sky with a flash. The extremely bright one in this image even produced a faint cracking sound shortly after it hit the atmosphere.
