This is a view of some of the jagged cliffs at the outer end of Slea Head on the Dingle peninsula in southwest Ireland. The distant hills are the Blasket Islands. Some say the Dingle Peninsula is the Cape Cod of Ireland… It is a vacation destination and a peninsula, but much more rocky than the Cape. I’d compare it more to to Point Reyes National Seashore in northern California. It really feels like “the edge of the world”… It’s the westernmost point of Europe – the closest to North America.
You can drive to the end on Route R559, and park at the Coumeenoole Beach parking lot and walk along the top of the cliffs with very dramatic views out to the islands and the sea. A fantastic afternoon - no matter the weather...
