Machu Picchu is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. It is tangible evidence of the urban Inca Empire at the peak of its power and achievement—a citadel of cut stone fit together without mortar so tightly that its cracks still can’t be penetrated by a knife blade. Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It's UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the new 7 World Wonders. Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on top one of the mountains surrounding the Machu Picchu archeological site

Time

According to the time difference between Peru and Portugal, this photo was taken at about mid afternoon, when we succeeded to arrive at the top.

Lighting

It was a Summer clear and sunny day, the ruins are on a very high point of the mountain so, nothing preventing the sharpness of the site.

Equipment

At that time I was only using my Canon Powershot SX710HS. When travelling, most of the times I take my smaller tripod as it's portable and light. Once I had to wal up the mountain I reduced to the maximum the equipment. Besides, it could be dangerous for my camera to put the tripon on those stones. Thus, no tripod, flash or special lens used then.

Inspiration

It's rare that I'm not inspired to take a photo once I see beauty almost everywhere. What I do regret is the fact that I've lost many opportunities to take photos I considered could be good because not always I can control the time spent on each place. ANyway, History and these ruins (one of the World Wonders and UNESCO Heritage) surely would not be left behind. It's an breathless sensation to be on that place considering what History relates about it.

Editing

Sometimes I save SOOC images but usually I make some edition, such as a bit crop, improve the contrast and sharpness.

In my camera bag

As a complete but passionate photo amateur, nowadays I rarely take photos with my older digital camera Olympus VG-160, more often with my previous camera Canon Powershot SX730 HS, taking with me extra batteries, a Star 63 166-3D tripod and a small "Gorilla" one. Very recently, I’m using my newest camera Canon EOS200d with a Canon 55-250mm lens and a brand new Tamron lens 18-400mm.

Feedback

Who am I to give advices to others? I'm a laywoman. What I can say is that if you like photography, try to take photos of everything which call your attention or you like. Whenever possible, take into consideration the light, perspective and composition. Photography starts in your mind through your eyes and your images can tell a lot of things to others, help others, inform others. And, if you really like photography and you have no ideas, then… photograph what you have.
