It was taken in my backyard. Prior to this shot i didn't know that those photogenic jumping spiders lived in my backyard. Thanks to photography forums, and wikipedia, I've learned their habitats and started looking closely in my yard. After couple of minutes to my suprise, I found them everywhere! I was lucky, considering their nature being pretty quick. This fellow was hanging out on a corner of my house, without moving for some time.Time
I think it was about 3-5PM in a hot summer day. Those days are the best, in my opinion, to find some interesting creatures like this one !Lighting
Lighting is tough for shooting macro. Considering I'm pretty broke, I made some home made built-in flash diffuser from paper and fabric, I think it worked out well!Equipment
Canon 450D, reversed hand-held 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 lenses and camera's built-in flash with homemade diffuser, nothing fancy!Inspiration
I was looking at other photographers and awesome pictures they had with jumping spiders. After that I also wanted to have my own and started experimenting with what "gear" I had.Editing
Yes. considering my subject wasn't moving for some seconds, I was able to take some differently focused shots. That helped me to do a focus stacking for expanding depth of field of the subject. That's the trick that I love very much! Afterwards, some dirt cleaning, contrast and cropping. In my camera bag
Very basic, unfortunately, I don't have money to buy some fancy equipment for now :D Canon 450D Canon 50 mm, 1.4 Canon 18-55mm, 3.5-5.6 Polarizing filterFeedback
Focus stacking helps a lot for macro photography, if it's possible make few shots with slightly different focus points on the subject. I'm sure there are tons of tutorials on how to make it (I also made one :D). Second problem is the lighting. I usually shot with flash. It should be diffused. If you are broke as me, you can make some homemade contraptions from your camera's built-in flash. Thirdly, trial and error will make you get any shot you'll want eventually ;)
