The waterfall at the head of the Valley of Desolation in the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a hidden gem and well worth the walk. The Valley of Desolation was named after a storm which battered the woodland in 1826 and 'laid waste' to the area. It has since grown lush and despite the name is a fantastic gill that leads up on to Barden Moor and Simon's Seat, a fairly small hill reaching only 485m and capped with millstone grit. The peak still gives some great views over the dales landscape.
