A close-up of water from a fountain. It reminds me of creatures from outer space. I used Sony Alpha NEX-6 and an old soviet lens Jupiter 37A, which was made in 1985, to take that shot.

Location
The photo was taken in the park near my house in Magnitogorsk, Russia. I saw an amazing fountain and tried to show its beauty from different angle. I'm a self taught photographer, so it was a new experience for me.Time
It was early evening about 6 p.m. I love to walk around that time, like the light and how things look that time of a day.Lighting
I usually try to use natural light to take shots, that time was not an exclusion. It was a pretty sunny day, I loved how the Sun played on water, so I decided that using natural light would be enough for taking shots.Equipment
This was shot on SONY Alpha NEX-6 with an old soviet manual retro lens Jupiter-37A 135mm f/3.5 from 1985. All setting for that shot I made manually and I used f/4.5, 1/4000 and ISO 400.Inspiration
The beauty of the World is the best inspiration for a photographer. I live an industrial city and here people usually have an opinion that there are no lots of beautiful places to walk around and all beauty is somewhere, perhaps in the other cities, planets and galaxies, so it was my try to show that it is wrong and the beauty is everywhere, it's easy to see that by changing the state of mind to more positive way and trying to watch the common things on unusual angles.Editing
When I saw my shot on my PC, it reminded me of an alien creature from outer space, so I decided to make it look more sci-fi. I cropped about 10% of image to improve the composition, then I toned it using color variations in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I'm a huge fan of vintage lens, I love that each vintage lens has its own signature and the fact that lots of greatest photographers of the past used, perhaps, the same kind of lenses to take shots like I use today. The first thing I pack is my Jupiter-37A 135mm f/3.5, it is a great lens, very sharp, ergonomic with nice bokeh, definitely my favorite lens. The second thing is my camera SONY Alpha Nex-6, love how tiny it is and it is so easy and pleasant to use. Also I pack Zenitar-M 50mm f/1.7 from 1982, an amazing lens, very similar to ultron lenses, and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 200mm f4, very serious piece of glass and metal from the 1970's, beautiful and sharp a sword of Samurai. Toys are alive when someone plays with them, the same with lenses, they are alive when someone take shots, so I hope that my lenses will live for a long time.Feedback
Taking shots of floating water without a tripod is such a challenge, especially using manual focus lenses, use continuous shooting mode. No one knows the exact camera settings for that, it depends of lots of factors: daytime, weather, background and so on, so be prepared to use your knowledge and intuition at the same time experimenting with different camera and lens settings and points of view. Staying inspired and enjoying the process is also very important.
