The lone tree at Buttermere lake, in the Lake District. Previously I have shot this image as a landscape view but today decided on a portrait view and I am really pleased with the composition. Also I was fortunate enough to have nice calm conditions this morning witch resulted in the lovely reflection across the water.

Location
This photo was taken at Buttermere Lake which is in the Lake District, Cumbria. The Lake District is a 4 and a half hour drive to this area from my home, the area it's self is very popular with hiker's due to great walks and view's around the Lake. In the distance you are looking towards Fleetwood Pike and Haystacks. The tree in the fore ground has had many different names but over the years it has become smaller in size but at the minute it still stands !Time
This image was taken during sunrise at 7.50 am on the 18th February 2016. I have always shot this image in landscape but for some reason and for the first time I captured this scene as a portrait and I think the composition is awesome !Lighting
As any photographer will tell you, during sunrise or sunset you get what you get and always hope for a bit of luck.Equipment
The image was captured using a Tripod and a Nikon D610 with a 16-35mm F4 lens. Filter's used were, 1x Lee 3 stop hard grad and 1x 1stop Lee hard grad.Inspiration
The Lake district is such a very photogenic place, the view's are amazing and Buttermere Lake is steeped in history and the lake gives you endless photo opportunities. I noticed the calm condition's and the small area of ice with the pattern that remained and just thought this would look good in the fore ground, I also think the composition was just the icing on the cake !Editing
With regard to post- processing there wasn't much, just one small spot to do with my highlights on the lake and where my grad's had darkened the fells in the distance I only lightened them slightly. In my camera bag
I Always have a Nikon D610, Tripod, LEE Filter's, 24-70mm 2.8, 16-35mm F4, 24mm 2.8 Prime Lens, cable release, LEE polariser, LEE small stopper, LEE Big stopper,Feedback
Don't give up, if you don't get what your after on the first attempt try and try again, never give up, you never know just what type on photo that you may just capture, every picture you take whether its for the first time or the hundredth time will always be something new. When you feel frustrated that you may not be taking great photographs seek help and advice as there are plenty of photographers in the same boat and its great that you will be able to pass on your knowledge to other new photographers down the line which is how we all get somewhere.
