Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Glacier Park, Montana. During a cross-country road trip we spent a few days exploring the park, and ended up claiming this as our camping spot. The water was pure and frigid, undisturbed by anything but a low swimming fish from time to time.

Time

We were making our way to The Road to the Sun, when we couldn't pass up a photo session of this gorgeous lake around midday.

Lighting

A cloud free day is the best there is to say about the lighting of this picture. No special settings or effects were used, just that of what a cell phone could capture.

Equipment

This shot was from an iphone. Nothing special or fancy, just a moment of pure joy and the desire to capture it however I could.

Inspiration

Connection. Genuine, wholesome connection to the day, the place, the mountains... Everything about this moment and the people I shared it with was the inspiration behind this picture. I wanted to remember it as adequately as I could after the day was gone.

Editing

This picture was enhanced slightly with increased saturation as well as decreased highlights and increased shadows. The main point of the processing was just to help the image clearly show the clearness of the water.

In my camera bag

Typically an array of camera's and lenses. But on this day in particular, only my cell phone.

Feedback

The main advice for taking a similar picture is to remember that it only takes a moment of time. There were no intentions of using this day as one for photography, but at the last minute we couldn't pass up this shot. It was actually taken on a cell phone! The best advice for any photographer, is to remember that even a second glance at beauty can result in an image of a lifetime. This isn't the best quality shot, it isn't as clear or crisp as it could be, but regardless of that it can take your breath away. Take pictures because that moment speaks to you. Don't always seek out the "perfect shot", sometimes let it sneak up on you as something personal. Those are always the best pictures anyway.
