Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in the apartment with one of the models in the photograph.

Time

It was late afternoon when this image was taken.

Lighting

I lit this using a studio light with a beauty dish fitted

Equipment

Camera was a Canon 7D, handheld with a studio flash fitted with a beauty dish

Inspiration

I have always loved shooting monochrome images and I spend a lot of time shooting fashion and portraits. I give lots of credit to the models Pippa Louise and Amelia Mary for the styling and pose expressed here.

Editing

I like to do as little post production as possible. Here it was a manual conversion from the RAW file to monochrome. Once I had the levels and curve how I wanted it that was pretty much it.

In my camera bag

I always have my camera body and 85mm prime lens in my bag. I add other things when required.

Feedback

When i shoot monochrome I act as if i have a film camera loaded with black and white film. It is not an after thought. I look for shade and tone. I look to see how the light is working. I shoot in RAW and JPG mode with the camera set to monochrome so when i preview the back of camera during the shoot I can preview how the shots are looking in black and white.
