Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in one of the most beautiful beaches in Miami, FL.

Time

I usually take my pictures one to two hours before sunset time. On this particular day, traffic was chaotic and we had just finished shooting in another location 10 mins away from this beach. By the time we arrived to the beach the sun was already gone. We only had 15 minutes to shoot some pics before it turned very dark!

Lighting

I didnt use any lighting equipment other than a light reflector i always keep in my car. They come very handy in low light situations! I work exclusively with natural light.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D750, with a 135mm f2 lens and the help of a small light reflector. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

The first thing that came to my mind when i saw that Dollcake swimsuit was to recreate the Coppertone girl ad with a twist. I had everything planned in my mind when we set this shoot but the little girl pictured wasn’t feeling very comfortable with having her bottom exposed so i worked with what i had. This sweet girl is such a talented model for her short age!

Editing

I always post-process my images. Im a photoshop junkie! The sky and the seagulls were added in Photoshop. I also had to clone out two people from the image

In my camera bag

My 135mm f.2 lens rarely leaves my D750. They work wonders together! I also pack a 85mm 1.8 and a 60mm micro lens for little details. Im a portrait photographer. I shoot children and babies mostly so even though i have zoom and wide angle lenses i almost never use them.

Feedback

When shooting children, patience is a must. You need to understand that they will cry, misbehave, run away and do as they please. Every kid is different and you need to learn how to approach them, make them feel comfortable with your presence and let them be themselves. You will often have to improvise and even play pretend with the bigger ones and sometimes planning ahead won’t work but in the end, the resulting images will impress you.
