I almost missed this shot, as I almost overslept. I wanted to get up early and take the entire sunrise. Instead I woke up in a panic, thinking that I already missed it. I grabbed my bag and ran for this observation tower in our hotel. No one else was up except for a few startled hotel staff as I exited my room and ran for the tower. I am sure they thought something was after me. I got up and whipped out my tripod and grabbed a few shots before the beautiful color disappeared.Lighting

For sunrises the earlier the better, I usually arrive before the light hits the horizon. You might scoop at the location the day before. Grab a tripod and take a few images. I prefer to take bracketed images as you want to grab as much as light as you can.
