It had been raining on and off the night before. I struggled to get up, and ended up getting up late and running to this spot just as the sun kissed Kilimanjaro. Whew, That was a close one. Worth every moment.

Behind The Lens

Location
I captured this shot in Arusha, Tanzania
Time
I almost missed this shot, as I almost overslept. I wanted to get up early and take the entire sunrise. Instead I woke up in a panic, thinking that I already missed it. I grabbed my bag and ran for this observation tower in our hotel. No one else was up except for a few startled hotel staff as I exited my room and ran for the tower. I am sure they thought something was after me. I got up and whipped out my tripod and grabbed a few shots before the beautiful color disappeared.
Lighting
The color in the sky was disappearing fast. I had to work quickly to grab the skyfire
Equipment
I used my Nikon d800 (which was brand new at the time.) and my wide angle lens to capture all her glory.
Inspiration
I love sunrises and sunsets. I try and capture one for all my travels. This one turned out to be a gem with the cotton candy skies!
Editing
I took a bracketed image and processed in Lightroom and Photoshop, with added contrast for drama
In my camera bag
I usually have my Nikon d800 a few lens as in my 80-200 my wide angle. I now just purchased a new Fuji mirrorless and I am in love.
Feedback
For sunrises the earlier the better, I usually arrive before the light hits the horizon. You might scoop at the location the day before. Grab a tripod and take a few images. I prefer to take bracketed images as you want to grab as much as light as you can.
