This photo was taken at Bower Ponds in Red Deer AB. It is a man made park with 2 ponds, walking trails, and recreation. Fishing, summer festivities, paddle boats and canoes. In the winter they have ice skating and ice fishing.Time
This is one of my favorite winter image. The wife and I did a few things to do in the morning, grabbed a coffee and headed over to Bower Ponds. The date was Dec 19 2015 time was 10:00, it was a cold mid winter day about -16c. Quite overcast but some clear spots in the sky. We had our coffee then I decided to go take a few photos. After taking a few photos I seen the sun breaking through the clouds. I composed this image and it turned out just awesome. It looked great in the lcd on the camera but I shot only in raw so I had to wait till I post proccesed the image. WOW it was great !!!Lighting
I always shot with natural light. With this image I wanted a mysterious look to it and it worked out very wellEquipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3300 18-55 kit lensInspiration
I was just waiting for the sun to peak through the clouds and composed the shotEditing
This image was post processed in Camera Raw and Lightroom. I used a bit of tone mappingIn my camera bag
At this time I only have the D3300 kit lens 18-55 Sigma 70-300 with macro uv and polarizing filter.Feedback
Just do what I do. Just keep a keen eye, compose your shot. The weather might not be on your side. If you can't get the image you want, come back another day when everything is just right. Practise, try different settings, angles, props to get the image you see in your mind. Photography can be such a rewarding hobby, just wish there was more time in a day and longer summers. So get out there get some great shots and post them for everyone to enjoy.
