The lighting is perfect, and the image has two compelling leading lines. I love it. Congratulations on your PC win.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken near the Fall River Railroad Museum in Fall River, Massachusetts. I'm a self taught photographer with a passion for landscape and urban exploration. I like to seek out what most see as monotonous scenery and reawaken it's beauty from my perspective to share.

Time

It was a chilly New England spring evening and we were actually about a block over shooting some waterscapes. It wasn't until a little after midnight when we decided to venture out and see what else was around before heading home. After about an hour or so we stumbled onto these train tracks and rubble sprinkled with some local artistic flare!

Lighting

There was natural light coming from the moon and distant street lamps shining in the distance. I wanted to lead the viewer from a dark start to an unknown, but risk worthy journey.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D800, with a 14-24mm f/2.8 lens, mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

I am a magnet for urban decay. This was an unexpected capture as it wasn't planned, and by far my favorite shot of the night! The scene immediately spoke to me as a path of hope stemming from the hustle and struggle of the modern world.

Editing

My M.O. consists of always shooting RAW to get the most out of my images. LR is my go to digital darkroom, which I used for this shot to ensure I got the best dynamic range out of it. No other processing was used.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D750 is always on hand with a nifty 50mm 1.4 prime, for everyday journalistic type shots. I then also ensure to have my 14-24mm f2.8 and a tripod for those impromptu can't miss landscape captures.

Feedback

Go out and shoot! You don't have to travel or live in picturesque locations to capture stunning imagery. It's all around us. Whether you're sitting in rush hour traffic or driving to mom's, look around you. The scenery might not look appealing at first, but think of what could be. What might it look like at dawn or dusk? When it rains, what kind of reflections might you find in the puddles? Look at the colors and diversity of the environment. Whatever it is that you envision, go out and "paint" that picture!
