Built in 1914, Union Station served as the main train station for Kansas City for many years with it being the primary location for Midwest soldiers shipping out during World War II. It was closed in the 1980's and sat empty for years, nearly being demolished in the 1990's after being left abandoned and vandalized. In 1999, it reopened as a museum location and again a working train station. Due to it's history of being a primary location for soldiers going to war in the past, it continues to be a place that remembers our soldiers sacrifices by hosting several patriotic events and proudly displaying our nation's flag in the Grand Hall.
