Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on March 16/2016 on the lower part of the *Karakorum mountain range at the place where elevation from see level is 1500 Meters ,while i was trying to reach to my base camp and it took me 75 minutes from my jeep to this point ,It was a an ascending narrow track covered with beautiful vegetation ( Karakorum is a large mountain range spanning the borders between Pakistan, India, China and Afghanistan)

Time

How can i forget ,It was a late morning between 1100 am to 1130 am of a cold cloudy day ,Icy mountain winds were making my teeth chatter ,My nose was running and my hands were trembling with cold .

Lighting

As this waterfall was in deep pass between two hills and it was a cloudy day with average daylight ,I needed more light to make it little sparkling ,So i used Canon speedlites ,

Equipment

As you can see in my rest of photos that i use my favorite Canon EOS 6D camera but that time my friend was using it and he was walking a little ahead of me so i didn't miss the chance and took out my mobile pone adjusted the settings and aimed to shoot it ,It didn't work ,Light was bad & flat & my photo was not looking great ,I had to readjust many things my position ,light and settings ,after 3 attempts,Finally i captured this shot with these settings Camera : CHMU01 Aperture: 200/100 ISO :100 Shutter speed :1/1442 I tried to avoid the boring grey sky ,Well that experience made me bought another canon EOS 6D.

Inspiration

Basically my aesthetic sense ,All kind of beauty inspires me from natural to mechanical, Waterfalls are the popular subject for the landscape photographers but sometimes it's hard to shoot a perfect photo.

Editing

Usually i avoid editing or or photoshop when i capture my aerospace shots but landscape photography needs lots of processing ,In this case few parts of raw image were bright with all the details and few were over exposed so i used Lightroom to merge multiple exposure bracketed images into a single HDR image.

In my camera bag

My favorite canon backpack kit carries my lovely Canon EOS 6D camera, sigma lenses ,Canon batteries,USB charger, cables,Headlamp & Flashlights, tripods ,Power strap,12V invertor ,Canon speedlites,

Feedback

If you want to shoot best waterfall photos ,your gear should be good enough and the first thing most people suggest you need in order to shoot waterfalls is a complete quiver of neutral density (ND) filters to get a long exposure,Read the waterfall for length of exposure, start with smaller exposure ,Best time to shoot it in late afternoon or when it's light cloudy,Don't let trees to ruin your waterfall photo,in order to address this problem take the two exposures and blend them back together ( using layer masks in Photoshop ) Practice and experimentation is important for learning ,Read senior and experience photographer's blogs and practice these tips .
