There was no cloud action that morning so I needed to get creative. This was actually a selfie shot. I set up the camera on my tripod and set the timer. I then had to look back at the camera over my shoulder and using my shadow as a guide try to position myself.

Location
I took this photo at a cave in Manly Beach in Sydney, Australia. Being from the UK originally I love exploring all the new landscapes that Australia has to offer.Time
It was taken at sunrise around 6am. I hadn't planned to come to this spot I was just exploring the area.Lighting
This particular morning there was no cloud action to give me striking sunrise colours so I wanted to get creative.Equipment
I used a tripod and set the 10 second timer on my Canon 5D3. Then I ran into position and tried my best to position myself looking back over my shoulder and using my shadow as a guide.Inspiration
I wanted to be in the picture myself as I way to show my transition to a new point in my life. I went through some major changes personally and this was about a new dawn for me as a person and a photographer.Editing
I do minimal post-processing in my work. Some slight colour boost and curves in Lightroom. In my camera bag
My Canon 5D3 is my absolute work horse. It has had tumbles, dropped in sand and water and it still keeps going. Never has a piece of equipment served me so well and brought about so many changes and experiences in my life. My lenses I always carry are my Canon 16-35mm, my 70-200mm, my nifty 50mm and my 100mm macro.Feedback
Trial and error are key. This shot took about 5 attempts to get right due to the positioning of your body. In hindsight, it would have been better to use a remote trigger so that you don't have to keep running back and forth to the camera. You only have a small window to get it right because as the sun climbs higher you will find it more difficult to get that flare effect. Higher F stop will give you that flare effect to as the light bleeds between the aperture blades.
