I took this photo from the top of the stairway at the Monument to the Great Fire of London.Time
This was shot some time just after noon. It was a bright sunny day outside.Lighting
I had just started out with my DSLR when I took this shot. To this day I am quite surprised to how well this shot turned out eventually. This is all to do with the perfect natural light that was available at the time.Equipment
This is a hand held shot with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III.Inspiration
I was amazed to look down this wonderful spiral staircase. I held the camera out towards the centre facing down and fired off a few shots.Editing
I have used Lightroom to brighten up the shadows slightly and cropped the image to centralise the focal point.In my camera bag
In my bag I always carry my Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 14 mm f/2.8, Canon EF 24-105 mm F/4, spirit level, remote cord, spare batteries, lens pen, a CPL filter and a 6X ND filter. I usually carry a Manfrotto Befree aluminium tripod.Feedback
I feel inspired by the wonderful images other people have shared on Viewbug with a similar theme. I think the best advice one can follow about taking a good stairway shot is to focus on light and depth of field. Shooting from the top or the very bottom is always a good idea.
