Behind The Lens

Location
This image was taken from my front yard in Woodfin, NC looking down into a ravine to the south of my house.
Time
I always am up early and every morning look for the sun coming through the fog from the French Broad River. This image was taken about 1/2 hour after sunrise.
Lighting
Backlighting is a wonderful tool to use to emphasize elements of an image. In this case, the sun coming up to the east and south caused an almost etherial glowing effect through the fog from the river while backlighting the very large tree and low bushes.
Equipment
This was a multiple exposure shot taken taken on my RRS tripod using my D800 and my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8. A wireless remote was used to trip the shutter. Settings were f/11, 1/250 1/500 1/1000, ISO 100 @150mm.
Inspiration
As indicated, I love the sun coming through the morning fog that happens often in my location and this particular morning, the glow from the sun was so strong inside my home, I knew it had to be spectacular outside and it certainly was allowing me to create this image!
Editing
Because it was a multiple exposure shot, they were processed in Aurora HDR Pro to bring out the soft morning sun glow. Saturation/contrast/clarity were all emphasized.
In my camera bag
This image was literally taken outside my front door so no bag required on this one. However, I usually carry most of my equipment when I'm out shooting in a Clik Elite Pro photo backpack which has tons of room and an extremely capable tripod attachment. All up weight is about 35 lbs and includes my D800, 14-24mm f/.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, 105mm f/2.8, along with assorted ND/polarizing filters, cleaning gear, foul weather gear and water/snacks. My RRS fits quite securely in the middle of the pack. I have updated all my gear to Sony a7rIII and associated lenses as of July, 2018. Backpack weight has dropped about 5 lbs...... As a further update, my a7rIII has been updated to an a7rIV and the following lenses: 12-24 f/4, 24-105 f/4, 100-400 f/4.5-f/5.6 and 90 f/2.8 macro.
Feedback
This kind of image requires one to be up early and to be in a position to check routinely on the weather conditions. Equipment must always be at the ready because the conditions are usually extremely fleeting sometimes only lasting seconds! When it comes together, it's almost a religious experience and once taken and processed, the need/desire to allow others the same experience is extremely compelling. I love it!!
