Behind The Lens

Location

I have taken this photo not far from my home,a place called the Gentbrugse meersen. It is an area being developed by the City of Ghent to an area for nature development/conservation and recreation.

Time

I was there with my family at daytime and had noticed lots of rabbit droppings during our walk. The same week I came back and waited for the ideal light during the sunset.

Lighting

I wanted soft light but still strong enough to light up the details of the hairs from the bunnies.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 7D with a Sigma telelens 150-600mm @600mm /ƒ6.3 / 1/80s / ISO 800 from a tripod.

Inspiration

Nature inspires me everyday, whenever I have time available and the weather circumstances are ok I'll go out with my camera...

Editing

For me personally, a good nature photo doesn't need a lot of post-processing. This photo was edited in Lightroom to sharpen up a little bit and to remove some noise from shooting at 800 ISO, my canon 7D is not the best camera at lower light...

In my camera bag

As told before I have a Canon 7D (almost 7 years old but still performing well), a Sigma telelens 150-600mm Contemporary, the plastic fantastic 50mm 1,8 for some portraits and for everyday use a canon EF 24-70mm f2.8 and a canon 70-200 f4 IS.

Feedback

If you want to capture wildlife you need some knowledge about animal behaviour, lots of patience and you need to prepare your trip well, you have to know where the animals will be or go to at a certain time of day. Be sure you have your camera set up before you start (I work 100% of the time on manual mode) and then you have to sit in the bushes and wait, wait and wait till that magical moment when your subject is in reach of your lens. Good luck!
