Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during a safari in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania

Time

This was taken a few hours before noon, during the late morning hours. Mostly morning and evenings are ideal for game viewing as the temperature is still favourable and animals tend to be active and not hiding away from the afternoon sun.

Lighting

We were facing the sun while this elephant was trying to cross the road, we had to wait for a few minutes for it to cross so that I could have the sun almost behind me. In wildlife photography patience is always the key for one to get a good photo.

Equipment

I had a Canon 6D with Canon 70-300mm IS USM lens

Inspiration

I had taken plenty of elephant photos but none was with its calf nearby, hence Wanted to portray how protective elephants were and how close they were to their calves.

Editing

Converted the image to black and white. The grass was not so green and hence the background definitely couldnt make the photo beautiful.

In my camera bag

I usually have my 6D camera body, telephoto lens which is 70-300 IS USM, 70-200 f2.8 IS II and a 50mm. I rarelly carry my tripod with me as its too bulky.

Feedback

Serengeti National Park is an amazing Park that with patience and time you can be able to photograph almost all the big 5s and amazing photos as well. The key ingredient is always patience.
