Please tell me how you did this ? Love the dark back ground with Light only in the right places

Hi Lisa. This is a basic explanation, but I took an image of the rhino into Lightroom, and applied a radial mask around the rhino. I then reduced exposure around the mask leaving only what was inside the mask visible. This darkened most of the background around the rhino. Then I used local adjustment brushes to carefully go along the edges of the rhino, completely blacking out the background and adding gradations of shadows along the edge and elsewhere on the rhino to emphasize the areas I wanted to remain bright.

I love this with the dark background. I am very new to photography and don’t even have a good camera yet - hopefully buying one really soon - so wanting to learn as much as possible from sites like these
