This is a photo I took of one of the kittens I was looking after in my home. He was sitting at the window watching a lizard outside and I just loved how he was backlit by the morning sun.Time
This was taken in the morning.Lighting
I love to use natural light for my photos so having this kitten at the window worked out perfectly.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS REBEL T2i, 1/200, on auto because my eyes just don't focus very well anymore and the diopter doesn't go to my focus level.Inspiration
I had three kittens for a week whilst their family was away and was having fun practicing my pet shots. Being kittens, the best time to get a good shot was when they were having a rest. Most of the time all they wanted to do was come at me and check out the camera! Ha! Ha!Editing
I did darken the areas around the kitten to bring the focus in to my subject. In my camera bag
It really depends on what type of trip I am on. If I can't take everything with me I take the camera, a couple of lenses, (at the moment I am experimenting with a new 40mm that was given to me as a gift, and a 55-250 IS STM that I recently found second hand). I always carry a spare battery, spare memory cards, a remote shutter release and a lens wipe. If I have room, a tripod is my saviour.Feedback
Well, not sure I am really qualified to give advice, but I practice, practice, practice! In my view, just take the photo even if you don't think it will turn out. I like to take the same photo with different settings to see which one works better. When I first started using my camera I kept it on auto mode in case I needed to take a quick shot with seconds to spare. When I had the time to set up my shot I started practicing with each mode until I understood it before moving on to the next. I personally love and use the aperture priority (AV) mode the most.
