Location
This image if from rural central Alberta Canada outside the small town of Rimbey.Time
It was one of those days with lots of blue sky but also lots of potential storm clouds. This was in early afternoon, not my favorite time of day but the clouds helped make the image more interesting.Lighting
As mentioned, not my favorite time of day for light but you don't always have time to lay around and wait for the light you would like. So I made several images, using the clouds to help.Equipment
This was shot using a Nikon D7000 with an 18-200mm zoom lens.Inspiration
I drive by this abandoned homestead a couple times a year and try to make it a point to photograph once or twice a year it as it slowly decays. The bleakness of the building, the foreground gate being kept closed with plastic rope helped form the composition along with the large overhead clouds all helped me pull over on this day.Editing
Only a bump of contrast with a small amount of dodging of the building was done.In my camera bag
At the time, I used a D7000 with an 18-200mm a lot. Usually had a D3 with additional lenses along.Feedback
Always have your camera with you because only a few minutes later the image seen here was not there any longer.
