Behind The Lens

Location

Fripp Island beach, South Carolina (This Island is where all the Vietam scenes from Forest Gump were filmed!) The island is filled with many different textures. Marshlands run for as far as the eye can see in either direction, and the beach is beautiful and quite. The island is rich in wildlife (Alligators, sea turtles, and many varieties of birds.) It is a wonderful off beat location to take phenomenal photos.

Time

Playtime on the beach at 9:34am on Saturday, July 9th

Lighting

I shot this picture with the sun behind me; this assured my subjects were well lit. It was morning light so not too harsh, yet the lighting was a bit more than I typically aim for. The extra brightness worked to my advantage on this particular picture. No external flash used.

Equipment

I used my Sony alpha-5000 (ILCE-5000) Love it!

Inspiration

My sister foster failed this year with the dog seen in this photo, Jake. Jake and my Daughter were playing a great game of tug of war. There was such joy on both of their faces, I couldn't resist capturing the memory.

Editing

I tend to go through waves of what I gravitate towards for post-processing. I found making many of my photos "crisp" when shooting pictures with splashes helped bring definition to "the splash" adding a bit more drama to the scene!

In my camera bag

My Alpha-5000 Lenses (55-210) (16-50)

Feedback

I always find it invaluable to get on the level of my subjects when shooting these type of scenes. I was on my knees in the water for this picture. It pulls the viewer in and communicates the energy, joy and emotion more accurately when you are at eye level.
