Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Astoria, Oregon. Some friends and I were going out on a trip to the beach and I thought it would be a great opportunity to bring my camera and try out some new perspectives to take some unusual shots.

Time

I took this photo on July 7th, 2016, so it's a fairly newer photo of mine.

Lighting

It was a really bright day but in the direction we were driving the sun was behind us, and I thought that it would really bring out the color of the sky and make a lot of objects in the background more visible.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS Rebel T6i with an 18-55mm lens, I did not use anything else.

Inspiration

I wanted to try and take a photo that would capture the excitement of adventure, the warmth of a nice summer day, and the feeling of spending time with the people you care most about all in one image and I took probably a hundred or so pictures before I finally settled with this one.

Editing

No, I didn't do any post-processing as I'm a rather large fan of leaving my photos unedited and trying to capture everything as is.

In my camera bag

I always have my 18-55mm lens, it's great to take pictures from a distance and it works extremely well for when I just need to get that one close-up shot. Next to that I have my 75-300mm lens which I never use that often but it's always handy when I need to really zoom in on something. I also carry a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens and multiple lens covers to help with different types of lighting but my favorite thing that I carry by far is my camera. My camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T6i, I love it's size and how it fits perfectly in my hands and it's also not too heavy so I'm never worried about dropping it. That's pretty much everything I keep in my bag and it goes everywhere with me.

Feedback

If you're in a convertible, and you're driving while trying to take a picture like this I really suggest you keep the camera strap around your neck otherwise you might almost drop the camera and give yourself a mini heart attack. But mostly, always keep your camera out and keep an open mind about your angles and where you take the shot from, because sometimes standing up in your car while driving down the road and getting a slight downward angle can give you a really nice outcome.
