Location
This photo was taken on a norwegian island, out by the ocean, called Runde. It's an island famous for all the birds, and among them the atlantic puffin.Time
We went out for the trip, walking up in the 'mountains' of the island. It took some time, and when we came to the birdmountain where the atlantic puffin lives we settled down and waited. A lot of other people was also there to take pictures and watch the birds come home from the sea in the evening. We waited for several hours, and they also came in to settled down over hours. They went out again to catch more food, and then in to their caves. So this picture was taken in the evening.Lighting
It is only natural light in the picture, and the puffin sits gazing out over the ocean, so the light from the heaven and sea shines at his face.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D300, with my Nikor Lens 55-300 mm. The picture is taken handheld.Inspiration
Me and family went to Runde to look for these birds and wanted to take pictures of them. I have always loved the atlantic puffin, they are so beautiful and cute. I was very excited to be able to take pictures of them! In the beginning it was really hard, they did fly very fast into their caves, but after a while som of them stopped for a while and stood like this, so I was able to take better pictures of them. I tried to make it look as natural as possible.Editing
Nothing special. Only a little correction of light, but no big changes. In my camera bag
I have to camera bodys; My first SLR camera - a Nikon D3100 and the Nikon D300 which I took this shot with. These I use to have with me. I also bring a short lens 18-55 mm, and the 55-300. I also have a wide angle lens that I have in my bag. Besides that I bring a tripod, different grey filters and waterprotection in case of rain.Feedback
For pictures of the Atlantic Puffin, Runde in Norway is a perfect plays to stay. You should come early, because many people come there and try to get good shots. You also have to be very patient. It will take many tries, shots and waiting to get the good pictures. If you stay there to the end, other people also start to leave and you will be able to take the photos you want. Patience is the most important key word! Other than that - enjoy the time, it's a wonderful experience!
