Location
This photo was taken at a hummingbird garden in the Mount Verde region of Costa Rica, when I visited for my honeymoon in April 2016.Time
It was in taken in the afternoon, being in Costa Rica the sun was beating down and it was very hot, but the natural daylight was perfect.Lighting
As I said above, I used only natural daylight, despite being in the rainforest, the hummingbird garden was fairly open, so getting an shot without shadows was fairly easy, it was just catching the birds in flight which was tricky.Equipment
I am an amateur photographer so this was taken with my standard kit lens on my Nikon D3200.Inspiration
I love wildlife, so the choice to visit Costa Rica with it's rich biodiversity was an easy decision. This was the first time I had actually used my DLSR and luckily there was a photographer on our tour who showed me the basics. I would recommend Costa Rica to anybody who loves shooting animals, there is plenty all around!Editing
I have to admit, I don't know very much about post-processing. If I do it, it will only be adjusting exposure or white balance. In this case, I just cropped the image to make the bird stand out from the back ground of the garden.In my camera bag
As a beginner, my kit bag is rather minimal, I have my standard lens plus a sigma 70-300 macro lens. I also have a Velbon tripod, however it wasn't needed on this occasion.Feedback
I capture all moving wildlife photographs in sports mode, this is especially effective with birds, as they move so quickly. I spent around 20 minutes in the hummingbird garden and took over 300 photographs, most of which were blurry or out of focus. Wildlife photograph is definitely trial and error, but it is worth holding out to get your perfect shot.
