Location
This image of Lower Chasm Falls was taken in the Meander State Forest near Deloraine in Tasmania, Australia.Time
We left extremely early at 4.30am from Hobart which is a 3 hour drive to the Meander State Forest. Upon arrival we walked into the forest for another 45 minutes and made it well before the harsh light of the middle of the day would have caused issues for us with reflections on the water.Lighting
The early morning light was perfect as it allowed for the soft and almost mystical feeling of this incredible location.Equipment
This image was shot using a Canon 5Ds, Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens, Sirui Tripod and Hoya Pro Circular Polariser.Inspiration
I am always drawn to waterfalls and I have been seeking out as many of them as possible here in Tasmania. I like to visit locations that are not often shared on social media through my @tassiegrammer Instagram account. I have been wanting to visit this location for some time now and with the recent rainfall and snow we have had throughout Tasmania, I was quite confident that this waterfall would be flowing very well.Editing
The only post processing required for this image was simple contrast, colour and white balance adjustments in Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
I use Canon cameras and lenses exclusively and always carry a Canon 5Ds, Canon 5DMKIII, Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II, Canon 70-300m f/4, Lee & NiSi ND Filters including 2 x 6 stop, 2 x 10 stop, 0.3 / 0.6 / 0.9 Soft Grads, Hoya Pro CPL, NiSi CPL.Feedback
Know the conditions you will be shooting in. Quite often I need to visit locations multiple times to assess the lighting conditions, angles of sunlight etc before I get shots that I am happy with. For waterfalls I generally always use a circular polariser and of course a tripod, and typically always the 16-35mm or 24-70mm Canon lenses. Be prepared to get wet which I quite often do whenever I am visiting waterfalls as the best angles are those where the water is flowing straight towards you.
