Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken from my deck overlooking the Ottawa river.

Time

This was early evening.

Lighting

The river was like glass, and the clouds were reflected so it looked like the kayakers were paddling in the sky.

Equipment

Canon t4i, 18-200 Canon lens, hand held.

Inspiration

I was on the deck looking out at the river when I heard a group of paddlers coming down the river. Sound really travels over the water, especially when there is no wind. The Ottawa river is quite big, and it is not very often that is is so calm so I grabbed my camera and got a few great shots.

Editing

I did a level fix and a sharpen and cropped a bit from the top where there was some trees being reflected from the other side of the river. I wanted it to look like the paddler was in the sky.

In my camera bag

Canon t2i converted to infrared, I now have a Canon 6D Mark II with an 18-135 and a 70-300.

Feedback

Always be ready to grab your camera when there are interesting weather conditions (in this case it was the lack of wind and the calm water). I took quite a few shots of the group, and made sure to get them when they hit the calmest water.
