Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Greenville, NC. In my backyard.

Time

Was a beautiful sunny day at 4pm.

Lighting

No lighting equipment was used. Just sunlight and floor worked as a reflector.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D mark iii and a canon 70-200mm f/2.8.

Inspiration

This was a client photo shoot. I felt her fun personality fit the sunny sidelit scene.

Editing

Yes, I color graded in Capture One and retouched in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Canon 5D mark iii camera, a Sigma 50mm lens, and a Tamron 85mm lens.

Feedback

My first suggestion to anyone starting out with photography is to learn as much as you can about light. You can have the best gear but if you don't light your subject well, you might not create a great portrait. A wide open aperture will give you nice bokeh. Posing and expression always makes or breaks a portrait too. Be sure to connect with the person you are photographing. What I remember the most about this portrait is that we laughed and had so much fun!
