Location
This photo was taken at Nubble Lighthouse on Cape Neddick in York, ME.
Time
Before heading back home to Connecticut, after a week up in Maine, I made the last stop of my trip in York, Me. an old vacation spot that I had not visited in over fifteen years. I spent some time walking around the area reminiscing on my childhood before setting up the camera and gear to capture this shot. I traversed the rocks as all the children and families were then headed to the water where this photo was captured. The capture was taken on June 28, 2016 at 1700.
Lighting
The clouds were rolling away after a quick storm rolled through and the sun was headed towards the horizon behind me. The clouds gave me the right amount of brightness to make this image work. The sun broke through the clouds to hit my main target of the lighthouse and slightly on the foreground to capture the waves crashing against the rocks then pulling back into the ocean.
Equipment
Canon 6D, Canon 17-40mm f4, MeFOTO backpacker tripod, no flash, Tiffen ND 10 stop filter.

Inspiration
I wanted to express every emotion I felt after viewing Nubble Lighthouse for the first time in fifteen years. This location was my fathers absolute favorite vacation spot, unfortunately, when I was very young he had passed away which halted our trips up there. As you can imagine I was hit with mixed emotions standing in front of my fathers memorial rock which lays right next to Nubble Lighthouse.
Editing
I used adobe lightroom and photoshop for my post-processing. I wanted to pull the viewers attention in to the image through a sequence of steps, from foreground to back ground or vice versa. I brought a little contrast to the water which gave the long exposure of the water some pop. A tad bit of color to the dark clouds and I was fortunate to have enough sunlight on the background image of the lighthouse where I didn't have to do much touching up.
In my camera bag
Currently I am team Canon. I have the Canon 6D with Canon lenses: 24-105mm f4, 17-40mm f4, 85mm f1.2, and 70-200mm f4. I use the Canon 600ex-rt flash along with Tiffen and B&W ND filters. The MeFOTO backpacker tripod fits perfectly on my ikan explorer backpack in addition to all my gear and 15 inch macbook pro.
Feedback
Don't go out expecting to capture an image like this without the right mentality and preparation. You have to be patient as a landscape photographer as well as in shape. Most of my images aren't taken from sea level like this photo, many are on top of mountains which requires a great pair of hiking shoes, endurance and a lot pf preparation. Do a little research on what gear and settings you need to capture the image you desire before a trip or vacation. Most importantly, make sure when you head out into the world to capture the beautiful landscapes that you respect the land, don't litter!
