Location
I took the photo of this bath hut at the lake zurich in switzerland. It is part of park located on the peninsula of Au.Time
It was a stormy and rainy day but I decided nevertheless to make my way to the lake. And I was lucky as the sky openend up in the evening shortly before sunset and the sinking sun produced some very nice pastel tones in the sky.Lighting
The lighting of the photo is wholly natural. It was one of this moments when a grey sky turns into amazing colors just for a short time, but even more so impressive.Equipment
I used my Canon 5d mark ii with my favorite lens Canon EF 16-35 f4. In this case I also used a polarized filter to control the reflection of the water. And of course I used a tripod.Inspiration
As I am also an architect I am fascinated by those bath huts you can find at some lakes in middle europe. This one is not publicly accessible, but there is a nice kind of beach next to it. The sandy ground, the house standing in the water and the pastel tones of the photo are remindful of the South Seas rather than a lake in Switzerland. In addition the photo was also taken in cold january.Editing
The photo is made of three different exposures which I combined with the HDR function of Adobe Lightroom. Raw conversion and further adjustments were done in Adobe Photoshop. In my camera bag
I always take my Canon 5d Mark II and the EF 16-35 mm f4 with me. It is my absolute favorite lens and I like it for city photography as well as landscapes because of the wide angle and its sharpness. Aditionally to the lens I use diverse neutral density and polar filters to control reflections and the effects of long exposures. And of course a tripod belongs to my basic equipment.Feedback
This photo is absolutely about luck and patience. Sometimes, when you feel like the weather is too bad for photography, suddenly the sky opens up and blesses you with amazing colors and awesome light. But these small moments, the ones you have to wait for seemingly endless, are mostly the best. So even if the sky is grey, take your camera and go out, you might be lucky too!
