Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from a bicycle path south of Lévis, Quebec. This is a 74 km paved bicycle path that traverses agricultural land.

Time

This photo was taken in the early morning, around 10 AM when the air is still clear.

Lighting

The day was thinly veiled, so the sunlight was present, but diffuse giving the shot uniform light with light shadows.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS 70D camera with an 18-270 Tamron lens. I leaned the camera against a post along the bicycle path to give stability.

Inspiration

The look and feel of quiet agricultural landscape is what inspired me. The old barn screams history and the quiet passage of time.

Editing

Very little post-processing. Minor sharpening of the image to make the lines of the barn stand out more clearly.

In my camera bag

When cycling long distances like this, I travel light. My saddlebags carried the camera and my trusty 400mm L-series lens in case I encounter interesting wildlife.

Feedback

Go cycling in the countryside! Seriously, just open your eyes to the landscapes around you. There are always gems sitting there. When you do see something interesting, look at the angles to determine what you would like to see if this were a photograph. Sometimes just moving a few feet one way or the other gives a better perspective.
