Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Whitley court, in Great Whitley, Worcestershire. It's a old statley home that burned down hundreds of years ago and it is believed to be haunted.

Time

I believe it was taken around midday! Not the best time to be taking photographs but I saw an opportunity with the lighting and thought just go for it rules are there to be broken right?

Lighting

This photo wasn't really a planned one, but I loved how the light was streaming in through a series of broken old windows creating interesting shadows and highlights I knew when taking the photo that it would make a great black and white convert due to lighting adding interest and contrast with the shadows and highlights

Equipment

I took this photo on my first DSLR which was a canon 1000d so a pretty basic entry level camera, I can't remember what lens I used but it was most likely the standard 18-55mm I also had a 70-300mm tamaron but i don't think I used that, I upgraded my kit 3 years ago to a canon 60D along with new lenses too.

Inspiration

To be honest I hadn't planned on taking this image but as I was walking around the sun had started to stream through the windows and gaps in the old bricks and I just knew I'd be stupid not to take a photo, I still like this photo 7 years on so I'm glad that I did actually take a picture.

Editing

I can't remember the exact process of what I did to the image but I did convert into black and white with photoshop along with playing with the contrast as I wanted everything to pop, I think I used the HDR but Just a little bit to enhance the details I didn't want to go too overboard.

In my camera bag

It all depends but usually I have my trusty canon 60D, 60mm macro lens, 24-105mm IS USM, Fuji x100s A reflector for bouncing light onto clients faces if needed A selection of filters Memory cards
