update....this tree was knocked over by Hurricane Matthew in 2016..
Boneyard beach on Bull's Island located in Awendaw, SC. (located outside of Mt. Pleasant, SC) This place always amazes me every time I go. You must get up really early to get a sunrise here. This requires you to get the ferry from Coastal Expeditions at 4am then a truck ride from the dock in the complete dark (3 miles) then you come to beach. All I can say is wow this place is amazing & glorious. I am very thankful to live close enough to visit often.

I took this photo at Bull's Island off the coast of Awendaw, South Carolina. Awendaw is north of Charleston. This is an uninhabited island that you can only get to via a ferry from Awendaw.Time
This photo started off at 4:15am on a boat thru the dark and low tide waters leading to the island. You really need to know where you are going at zero dark 40 in the morning. Once on the Island we take a truck and trailer drive thru the island on dirt roads and that have lots of drips and other holes as well as tree/palm limbs hanging over the roads. Upon arriving at the beach drop off spot you can't see the ocean but you sure can smell it. Once off the trailer you start off by spraying yourself down with bug spray with flashlight in hand you make your way onto the beach. Pray for some kind of breeze, that way the gnats can't get you and eat you alive. This photo was just after the sunrise.Lighting
A lot of photographers go on this sunrise trip to Bull's Island. I have done this trip over 14 times in the last 3 years. The lighting condition is different every time. With sunrises you are a slave to mother nature. This morning the sunrise was spectacular it was nice. Once we arrived on the island most of the photographers set up around this tree. I love the tree as well but I hate being crowded. So I went further down the shore line to find a different angle. I really like the pictures I got but I noticed the other photographers had moved on from this beauty that is when I saw the sun, the little stream of water leading away from the tree. I took this photo and knew I would love it. It is one of the few times on one of these trips that I was like ahhhhhh you got it.Equipment
I shot this with Canon 5ds, Tripod and a remote triggerInspiration
This island's beach is called a bone yard. It was once a forest that the ocean has come in and taken over. The trees die for the salt water. But from the many years in the sun they get bleached out and fall over (sometimes) from storms. I loved this tree which stood for many years but in 2016 Hurricane Matthew came to the South Carolina coast and now this once majestic beauty that stood for so long now lays on the beach. You can still get photos of her just not like this.Editing

Canon 5ds, canon 18-40mm, 40-70mm, Canon 70-200mm, lee big & little stopper. I also always have my Canon 100mm macro. Not in my bag but with me sigma 150-600mm lens. I have been trying my hand at wildlife mostly birds and gators.Feedback
For sunrises never stop going to the same location multiply times. When it comes to sunrises and sunsets you are a slave to the weather and mother nature. Even on completely over caste morning think about black & whites on a moody day. Finally look around your surrounding you never know what kinds of things you can see. Never plant yourself in one location. Happy shooting
