Great shot! I love the translucent nature of his beak in this photo. Congratulations!

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at my home. Chamberlain was a rescue parrot.

Time

Indoor studio shot.

Lighting

Of camera strobe

Equipment

Canon 20D, 100 mm Canon macro.

Inspiration

Even though Chamberlain had many problems and was a feather plucker, he was still a beautiful bird.

Editing

i just converted everything except his beak to b/w. Since I used a 2.8 aperture and had a very shallow DOF I did not have to blur the background.

In my camera bag

This is a very old photo. These days I use a Canon EOS 5D mk iv and Canon EOS 80D with Canon 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 and 100-400 L glass as well as the 100mm macro and Rokinon 14mm. For flash I use 580Ex. I use a Manfroto CF tripod. For panos I use the iPano Allview mount.

Feedback

This is extermely simple photograph. Using a wide open lens to decrease the DOF is all I really did. And, of course used an off camera flash to light him.
