Location
This photo was taken at an airshow at Willow Run airport near Ypsilanti MI.Time
It was taken fairly late in the afternoon, I am thinking around 6:00pm or so.Lighting
The airshow was almost cancelled because of severe weather rolling through. I was very fortunate in that they allowed us in after the weather finally broke. I arrived at this DC-3 just as the sun was trying to break through the heavy weather clouds. I positioned myself so the sun was just behind the nose of the aircraft.Equipment
I shot this hand held with my Nikon D7100 and a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 20mm lens.Inspiration
My inspiration comes from airshows. I always try to attend whenever possible. When I was photographing the plane from multiple view points, I noticed the sun breaking through the clouds. At this time, I kept moving around trying to get the best composition of plane, clouds and sun.Editing
I didn't need to do a whole lot to this one. Just cropping, and a little bit of HDR.In my camera bag
Since I knew what my subject material was going to be, I packed accordingly: D7100, Nikon 20mm, Nikon 200-500mm, Nikon 18-300mm, spare battery and lens cleaning cloths.Feedback
Many people did not attend this show because of bad weather. The die-hards stuck it out and fortunately we were let in. So the first bit of advice would be to not let adverse conditions stop you. Within proper safety constraints, these are the conditions that provide unique captures. Secondly, I like to get as close as I can to the subject and follow the rules of proper composition.
