Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my mother's front garden after a family birthday celebration for my 5 year daughter. It had been raining heavily all day. Whilst I was packing the my attention was grabbed by the flower, the rain droplets, and the light.

Time

The time was very late afternoon just on dusk. If the sun had been shining it would have been the golden hour.

Lighting

The lighting was just perfect. Dark overcast sky in the east and setting overcast sun in the west.

Equipment

The shot was taken using my Canon 7d, with my 24 - 105 f4 L series lens.

Inspiration

This was very much an opportunity shot. I love photographing flowers. The rain droplets just made the image even more special. I have seen many of these photos and have been waiting for an opportunity to see if I could take one myself.

Editing

I always shoot in Raw and then convert to JPEG using Lightroom. This was the only post processing I did with the image. I started my photographic journey with film therfore I do as much work as I can within the camera. The high end DSLRs coupled with quality lenses allows me to capture the image I see in my head.

In my camera bag

My favourite lens which is the canon 24 - 105 f4 L series as well as the Canon 50mm f1.4, this is an underrated lens it's sharp, light in weight, and fast. My favourite macro lens is the Canon 100mm f2. 8. Spare batteries and empty memory cards are a must.

Feedback

Keep your camera with you. Keep your eyes open. When you see the shot, take the shot. Do not be afraid to use high ISO. Flowers are best photographed using diffused lighting, and for example overcast days.
