I took this shot at the Embarcadero in San Francisco, looking out towards the Bay BridgeTime
This was taken in the early afternoon after a really long urban hike around the city!Lighting
I used a 10-stop filter as the lighting was pretty boring...I knew that the end photo would be a black and white.Equipment
I have a Nikon D610, and 16-35 f4 Nikkor lens, plus the filter. And it was the ONE day I didn't have my tripod, so I had to balance the camera on the wall. When I took the shot it was very lop sided!Inspiration
I've seen countless photos that depict San Francisco and I've been inspired by many of them. However I really wanted to get a long exposure like I've seen others do at the same spot.Editing
Oh yes! For a start I straightened out the shot. Then I had to clean up a few dust spots at the top left. That was pretty much it.In my camera bag
Remote, 10-stop filter, cleaning cloths, bag of M&M's.Feedback
It's really easy to do. Get a 10-stop filter, remote and a good tripod, and find somewhere that has something interesting in the foreground. In this case, I was looking for the old pylons poking out of the water because I knew that would look really cool. Low ISO, high aperture like f22 and you'll be able to expose for well over the 30" in BULB setting.
