Behind The Lens
Location
In the east near my home village Lam. The Village is sorrounded by a small Mountain area on each side. The West is a bit more open, because the Valley of the bavarian forest is so.Time
The Time was on sunset, at the longest Day of the year. The sun is only on this day as far west as possible. So to say its a very unique position of the sun. If i recall the time right it was around 9:30 - 10:00 o'clock in June.Lighting
Im really a sucker to lens flares. I adore them. Further more i wanted the light to layer the photo in foreground, middle and background. I hoped the sun would had set even more on the right, so the village and its church would had been more lighted and clear to see. But the outcome with the light directly above isnt very bad either.Equipment
The camera i used is still my canon eos 1000d, it amazes me everytime what is possible with it. The lens is a sigma wide angle lens. The downside of my amateur equipment is the sharpness. Thats the downside of it. I dont use flashes very often and here neither. But without a tripod it hasnt been possible to shoot the image. It has some different layers with different exposures and filters in it.Inspiration
I was there a couple of times , just walking around and enjoing the nature around. It has even more to offer as shown in the image. Also the idea to shoot a picture on the longest day of the year is always interesting. And the weather, clouds, sun and place is aligning every year different. Next year i have to get out to another place to capture the sun on its unique position on the longest day of the year.Editing
Yes i did, it was layering different exposures to highlight fore-, middle- and background. The most work had to be done in camera raw, to match the contrast, exposure, temperatur,etc.. of the each layers. I tried to enhance the parts of the picture to mix an allrounding concept , which creates different interesting regions. So for example the wheat and grass in the foreground, the last light on the hill in the middle, the lensflare above the village and the colourful sky.In my camera bag
First of all i really like equipment which is not heavy. Im often out in the winter with my snowboard and snowshoes. So a good bag with back-access and snowboard mount is the most important thing. In my bag is always a 50mm, 70-300mm and most important a wide angle lens 10-22mm. In combination with my canon 1000d and its 1.6x crop the wide angle lens is my weapon of choice. I feel it comes closest to my point of view. Maybe a 30mm would even do the trick a bit more, but unfortunately im short on money.Feedback
Well come to bavarian forest, it always is offering something to shoot. Either it is spring, summer, autumn or winter. And i like the idea of going anywhere and always find new places to shoot kinda the same area.
