I took this image somewhere during the afternoon.Lighting
In my studio there is this big window. The model, here name is Jill and she is only 8 years old, is facing the window from the side. To reduce the contrast between light and shadow I used two silver sunbounce reflectors. One from the side opposite to the window, one from slightly below. The windowlight has been reduced 2 stops by using a white transparant diffuser.Equipment
Nikon D750 and Nikkor 24-70mm f2,8. And 2x California Sunbounce mini.Inspiration
I've worked with Jill for the first time during the making of my little film for Nikon Netherlands. I am one of their ambassadors and I got my own I AM DIFFERENT film in which you can see how I work, interact with my models and use locations. After shooting the film I knew I wanted to do a studio shoot with Jill as well because she is a really beautiful and also inspiring little girl. So we planned a date and just started shooting, I had no idea what was going to come out of it but she absolutely blew me away. I did, but not a whole lot. I slightly retouched her skin and made the background a little darker. Of course I also turned the image into black and white but that was about it.In my camera bag
I always carry my Nikon D750. It is my favorite camera. As a backup, I also carry the Nikon D610. My favorite lenses are the Nikkor 70-200 f2,8, Nikkor D series 50mm f1,4 and the Nikkor 85mm f1,4. I also always carry the 24-70 f2,8.Feedback
Try experiment with a model and window light. Position your model and yourself on different angles and take your time to look at the result. If you do this often, you'll learn what light does to different types of facial features and you'll learn to play with light and shadows. Once you feel like you are slowly mastering this, try adding tools like reflectors (or even simply white paper) and diffusors (or simply different types and colors of fabric).
