Location
The photo was taken while out on a Sunday breakfast drive through the Cradle of Humankind in the Magaliesberg Mountains, South Africa.Time
As it was an early morning breakfast drive I had the added bonus of the wonderful mist over the roads lending to the mysterious atmosphere. There were also many unexpected bikers on the road that just added to the wonderful images I was able to capture.Lighting
I was thrilled with the misty haze over the sunrise and through the trees, but when the biker appeared around the corner I just knew I had to leap out of my car and take the photo right there and then without any planning. Thus the darker corners of the image lend themselves to the overall mystery of the image.Equipment
Because the image was impromptu - I leapt out my car and just fired - there was no tripod involved. I use a Canon 7D which is usually set to 100 ISO on Tv 100, hence the overall darkness of the image.Inspiration
I actually just got lucky, as I was not out on a shoot per se, but because I am never without my camera, I was able to get this shot while out on a breakfast drive in a beautiful part of the country.Editing
I always shoot in RAW, so was able to slightly adjust the exposure in LR, but otherwise didn't change much at all.In my camera bag
I wasn't lugging everything around, so usually just have my Canon 7D, a 24-70mm lens, an EFS 10-22mm for some landscapes and an EF 28-300mm, plus a flash.Feedback
Here in South Africa everything is unpredictable, from the weather to the locations to the people. One has to be prepared for absolutely anything. An early morning shoot can wield absolutely nothing, and the next minute you can turn a corner and see the locals busy having a gathering in full tribal regalia, so one has to always keep on ones toes and expect the unexpected.
