Location
I took this photo in a little town called Einsiedeln, near the oldest horse breeding establishment in Europe.Time
It was probably around mid-day when I took this picture, though the sun is the harshest during this time, in winter I think it gives off the best kind of contrast with the blinding snow. Also, unlike in the summer, I'm not all too inclined to avoid the hottest hours of the day when I can barely get my fingers to press the button...Lighting
I wanted this picture to be well illuminated, so as the tree and the snow on top of it were clearly set apart, but I also didn't want to sun overexposing it, so I tried to frame the image so that both of these goals could be met.Equipment
I used a D3100 camera, my first DSLR when I was first experimenting with photography.Inspiration
Something about the harsh, yet beautiful landscapes of winter fascinate me, and I wanted to try and capture that.Editing
No post-processing for this image, if I remember correctly. I might have cropped it a little, but I don't think so...In my camera bag
At the time when I took this picture, a good two years ago, I was a complete amateur, so I didn't have anything in my camera bag save the D3100, the lens that the kit came with, and probably a stick of gum (I never go anywhere without gum on hand). Of course nowadays, I have a few more pieces of equipment with me, along with some more nutritious snacks...Feedback
I would have to say that with such pictures the timing is of upmost importance. If you want an image with contrast such as this, without the need for editing after, you will have to take it when the sun is quite bright. Too early in the morning or late at night and sharpness will be lost. Wildlife photography is often seen as a waiting game, but it is just as important with landscape photography, despite the quite unmoving subject.
