Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the model's house. She had a very large livingroom with a big picture window that let in a lot of light.

Time

I like to do most of my photography work between the hours of 10:AM and 2:PM when the sun is at its highest so the light coming through the window was not harsh.

Lighting

Besides the light from the window I had two umbrella lights to soften any shadows that might have been on her. I also had a 10' by 20' muslin backdrop so when it came time to edit her out of the photo and into the cloud photo it would have been easier.

Equipment

I do all of my shoots with a Pentax K10D with a Sigma telephoto lens. Being handicap I use my tripod to steady myself. No flash was used just my two umbrella lights and the light from the window.

Inspiration

I had a great model and I had worked with her several times and she loved to do nude photography. For that shot I wasn't thinking of what the final outcome was going to be until I got it on my computer. I did know that she was up to posing anyway I asked her to and I felt I was pushing the boundaries with that photo but she was happy to do it.

Editing

Once I got all of the photos from the shoot on my computer and did the edits I went back to that photo and came up with the idea of her falling by rotating the photo and seeing that she looked like she was falling with her hair and necklace going in that direction.

In my camera bag

Normally I carry my Pentax K10D along with a Pentax *ist as a backup. On the K10D was my Sigma 70~200 lens and on the *ist I had a 50mm that came with the camera. I don't use flash anymore so I stopped carrying one. I also have a variety of filters from when I shot film but don't use them much.

Feedback

The advice I tell other photographers is work with your model, communicate what you are looking for, listen to advice your model may have because she may have done it before or something like it. Oh and have fun with your photography it's and enjoyable experience.
