I had been scouring the beach looking for an amazing vantage point. This image presented itself to me the night before, except the tide was too far in. So I decided to return the next day and try again as the tide would be 40 minutes behind, thus exposing the rocks in the foreground enough to make the image look as I had imagined it.
Returning to the same spot the next day I setup my camera early so that it would be ready when all the factors I was looking for had aligned. I shot off a series of images waiting for the light and tide to be just right. Once all was perfect, I fired off one last image at a 10 minute exposure to evoke a feeling of complete calmness, making the ocean that is constantly moving appear still with a soft painterly feel.

It was important to me to make sure that the sky was not over exposed but there was still some detail in the foreground rocks. That said, I wanted them to be as close to silhouette as possible.Equipment
Sirui Tripod, Fuji GX617, Formatt Hitech FiltersInspiration
I wanted something that was peaceful, but still had an element of confusion to engage people to think about it for a second. Knowing that water has a really cool foggy effect on film that is run longer than 2 minutes, I decided to use my medium format film camera to capture my vision. I had walked the beach and was looking for a nice set of rocks that framed the image well, as soon as I saw these I knew they would be perfect!Editing
This was shot on film, So it had to be developed, scanned, and then some light work in Photoshop. In my camera bag
My bag usually has a selection of three cameras. A Fuji GX617 medium format panorama camera, A Bronica SQ-Ai & a Canon 5D Mark III. I also carry a selection of lenses for those cameras. In my bag I have a bunch of other small supporting equipment like filters, light meter, triggers, & a Panorama head for the Canon.Feedback
