Location
This is a photo of my youngest daughter, we were having a little photo session in the long grass at the front of our house.Time
It was taken in the hour before sundown, which is my favourite time to photograph. While their is no evidence of golden light in this shot, other photos from that session have a lovely golden glow through her hair and the grass.Lighting
I love back-lighting just before sundown, you just have to make sure the face is getting enough light as well. The other lighting I love is turning a face into a large window, natural light can be perfect.Equipment
It was taken with my Nikon D3100, hand held. I used a 55-300mm lens, shot at a focal length of 135mm, the arperture was f 4.8. I didn't use a flash or tripod.Inspiration
I love to take photos of my children, and watching the long grass glow in the sunset in the previous days in the days, inspired me to put my daughter in the middle of the grass. The key to this photo though is her expression, I took many shots and we had a good giggle together, this was definitely an in-between moment.Editing
I converted this photo to black and white in Lightroom, I also increased the clarity of the shot, and deepened the blacks. In my camera bag
I have very basic equipment, my Nikon D3100 which is a few years old now, spare sd cards, 3 lenses, a wide angle a 55-300mm zoom lens, and a basic 18mm to 55mm lens.Feedback
Find some long grass and a sunset, wait for the glow, add cute child, take some serious shots but don't forget to lighten the mood with some fun. Sometimes the best shots are totally unplanned. I could not have planned for this expression, it just happened, keep shooting the whole time, its the in-between moments that are sometimes the best.
