I spent several days in Venice, Italy, two years ago. During my stay there, I had the opportunity to visit Burano, an island in the Venetian Lagoon. That's where I took this photo.
It was in the middle of the afternoon.
This is a very candid photo. I didn't really plan anything about the lighting.
I used my old Canon T3i, no tripod or flash.
I just loved the movement in this photo. It feels like an everyday moment in a lovely place.
I used Gimp to process this image. I just increased the contrast slightly.
In my camera bag
For the last year and a half, my bag has contained my Nikon D600 and a AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens, a UV filter, a spare battery, a remote wireless shutter, a cleaning cloth and air blower for my lens, and a tripod.
Mastery of composition, exposure, aperture, and shutter speed is great. But nothing will replace a good eye and a willingness to tell stories.
